What makes a quote comparable
Five conditions. Compared like for like.
The 5% review only works when the quotations are comparable. We review the five conditions below together before any price adjustment is considered.
Route & legs
The same journey.
The origin, destination and included legs must match - including collection, the main freight leg and final delivery where applicable.
Scope / incoterm basis
The same service scope.
Port-to-port, door-to-port, port-to-door or door-to-door must be compared on the same basis, including the agreed Incoterm where relevant.
Service level
The same level of service.
The transport mode, routing basis and service priority should be equivalent - not compared against a materially slower or different option.
Cargo & readiness
The same shipment conditions.
Cargo type, quantity, volume, weight and cargo-ready date should be materially comparable.
Validity
The quote must still be current.
The comparable quotation must remain within its stated validity period when submitted for review.
Out of scope
What isn't covered by the 5% review.
- Quotations based on a different service scope.
- Expired quotations or quotations without a clear validity period.
- Verbal estimates or undocumented rates.
- Quotations based on materially different cargo details, routing or service levels.
- Rates containing exceptional or one-off commercial conditions that cannot be matched on an equivalent basis.
